After Calling Off $30K Wedding, Bride Still Has Reception For A Great Cause

Sarah Cummins was set to get married this Saturday, but a week ago she called off the wedding that she and her fiance had been planning for two years. However, since the 25-year-old had saved up $30,000 to pay for the event, she wanted to make sure it didn't go to waste.

After apologetically calling her 170 guests and canceling on them, Cummins decided that instead of scrapping everything, she would instead have residents of local homeless shelters come to the reception.

With the blessing of her ex-fiance, the Purdue University pharmacy student will still hold her party at Carmel, Indiana's Ritz Charles hotel, complete with centerpieces and flowers. There, her new guests will dine on bourbon-glazed meatballs, goat cheese and roasted garlic bruschetta, chicken breast with artichokes and Chardonnay cream sauce and, of course, wedding cake.

The director at one of the shelters whose residents are attending told the Indianapolis Star, "I was so touched that Sarah had taken a painful experience and turned it into a joyful one for families in need. It is truly a very kind gesture on her part."

As for Sarah, she explained her decision saying, "I will at least have some kind of happy memory to pull from. I wanted to make sure it would be the perfect wedding."

She'll still head out on her honeymoon to the Dominican Republican, however it will be with her mother since, according to Sarah, her "ex-fiancé was kind enough to transfer his tickets to my mom."
