Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Robert Redford has died at the age of 89 at his home in Provo, Utah, Rogers & Cowan PMK chief executive Cindi Berger confirmed to the New York Times on Tuesday (September 16).

Redford was reported to have died in his sleep, however, no cause of death was given at the time of publication Tuesday. The legendary actor's career spanned more than six decades with roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Sting (1973), All the President’s Men (1976), The Natural (1984), and Out of Africa (1985), earning him two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe awards, the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, Kennedy Center Honors and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“The idea of being an actor was to have a sense of freedom. You were free to be, to act as someone else, if you were paying attention to the people around you,” Redford told Collider during an interview in 2019. “You had a chance to be an artist, because acting is an art form. You had a chance to say, ‘I know this person, I’ve seen this person before and I want to bring that forward.'"

Redford's final acting appearance came in an uncredited role as 'Chess Player' on the television series Dark Winds, which he served on as an executive producer for 20 episodes from 2022 to 2025, according to his iMDB page.
