Abbott Sets Date For Special Session

(Austin, TX) -- The Texas Legislature will start its Special Session July 8th. Governor Greg Abbott made the announcement yesterday. An agenda has not been announced, but is expected to involve the elections security bill, which did not get a vote after House Democrats walked off the floor. Republicans want the bill passed saying it will prevent voter fraud, while Democrats say it's voter suppression. Bail reform is also expected to be on the agenda. The Texas Legislature could also vote on an amended budget, which would restore their own funding, along with other boards. Abbott removed funding of the legislature last week saying legislators who didn't do their jobs deserved to not be paid. That's in reference to the House Democrat walkout.
