Several Saturday Races Headed To A Runoff

Voters across Southeast Texas went to the polls Saturday to decide races and a special election for Texas Senate District 4, with contests on ballots in Jefferson County, Port Arthur, Nederland and Orangefield. In Jefferson County, voters cast ballots in a special election for state Senate District 4 after Brandon Creighton stepped down to become the chancellor of Texas Tech University. Republican Brett Liggin won the race to serve out the term. In Port Arthur District 1 councilman Willie Bae Lewis will face Taylor Getwood in a runoff because neither candidate received 50% of the vote. Cal Jones won the Port Arthur District 2 seat. In District 3 Warren Pena and Charlie Lewis will go to a runoff because neither gained 50 percent of the vote. In District 4 Kaala Jones and Chuck Vincent will also be in a runoff because neither received 50 percent of the vote. In Nederland Randy Sonnier was elected to the Ward 3 seat. Orangefield ISD voter said yes to a 13-million-dollar bond issue for improvements to the baseball and softball field, plus the stadium.
