In the wake of the pandemic, when more people are feeling the pinch of inflation, changing jobs, and moving, fewer people are adopting pets. Kristina Rinaldi, the executive director of Detroit Dog Rescue, says, “Adoption rates are down - euthanasia rates are up.” So to bring attention to the problem, she visited Detroit’s FOX 2 studios with one of their available pups.
Jack is a pit-mix who has been at the rescue for over 500 days. Since January of last year, the playful pooch has been patiently waiting for his forever home, playing with his favorite corn-on-the-cob toy and enjoying the occasional Frisbee full of peanut butter. “People pass him over,” Rinaldi says, “But he’s a fantastic dog.”
But Jack's tale has a happy ending - after appearing on live TV, a viewer named Will decided to adopt him! Rinaldi is excited that Jack has finally been placed with a forever home, but she hopes that Jack’s story will inspire others to take a chance on a dog who’s spent far too long in a shelter, whether it’s one from her shelter or any of hundreds across the country.
