Actor Jerry Adler, best known for roles on The Sopranos and the film Manhattan Murder Mystery, died peacefully in his sleep, a spokesperson confirmed to Page Six on Sunday (August 24).

“He passed peacefully in his sleep in New York City and is survived by his four daughters — Alisa, Amy, Laura and Emily,” the spokesperson said.

Adler, 96, a Brooklyn native was reported to have died in New York City on Saturday (August 23), however, his cause of death wasn't immediately known.

"Jerry Adler passed away on August 23, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on February 4, 1929, Jerry was a resident of New York, New York," a Dignity Memorial obituary states in the care of Riverside Memorial Chapel.

Adler was surrounded by loved ones in New York City at the time of his death, according to the New York Post. The actor began his career on Broadway and was the stage manager on the original production of My Fair Lady before appearing in several films, including Manhattan Murder Mystery alongside Woody Allen and Synechdoche, New York directed by Charlie Kaufman.

Adler famously played the role of Herman 'Hesh Rabkin, a Jewish consigliere to Tony Soprano, on The Sopranos for 28 episodes spanning all six seasons of the popular HBO series. The actor, who also had roles on The Good Wife and Rescue Me late in his career, was known for being able to steal a scene in his roles.
